Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed that Once Upon a Katamari is headed to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, alongside a substantial content update for all platforms.

The Switch 2 version will feature mouse controls for rolling the Katamari, a higher frame rate, and enhanced graphics compared to the original Switch release. Existing Switch owners will receive a free update that brings mouse controls and frame rate improvements when playing on Switch 2 hardware.

Launching the same day, the "Rolling LIVE Highlights" DLC adds 10 new quests, 12 additional songs, six new cousins, and 18 accessories to customize your rolling adventure.

Once Upon a Katamari initially released last October across Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game tasks players with time-traveling to restore Earth's stars after the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys them again. You can customize The Prince and 68 cousins with different colors and facial features, then roll your way through new stages with a fresh soundtrack.

The standout feature is "KatamariBall," a four-player competitive multiplayer mode where players race to roll the biggest balls. Both online and offline play are supported, making it a solid option for couch co-op sessions.

For those wanting the full experience, the Deluxe King of All Sounds edition includes 60 songs and 26 costumes pulled from across the Katamari series history.

This marks the latest expansion for a franchise that's shown remarkable staying power since its 2004 PlayStation 2 debut. Beyond console releases, Katamari has appeared on PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, mobile devices, and everything in between. Recent HD remasters like We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie brought classic entries to modern platforms in 2023, and a mobile game, Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE, launched in April 2025.

With Switch 2's enhanced hardware, the latest version should give the colorful rolling action the performance boost longtime fans have been waiting for.
