Petals of Reincarnation is wrapping up. Creator Mikihisa Konishi announced Friday that the manga will enter its final battle and conclude with the 25th volume, marking the end of a 12-year run for the series.

The manga follows Tōya Senji, a high school student who sees himself as average despite strong academics—a feeling amplified by constantly comparing himself to his overachieving older brother. His life changes when he reconnects with a long-absent classmate, Haito Luo Buffett, who reveals she's a "Returner": someone who used a "branch of reincarnation" to claim talents from a past life. In Haito's case, she inherited the skills of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Tōya discovers there are other Returners with far more ambitious plans, setting the stage for the series' central conflicts.

Konishi launched Petals of Reincarnation in Mag Garden's Comic Blade magazine in May 2014, but moved the series online the following September when the print magazine ceased publication. The 24th volume ships July 9, with the finale coming shortly after.

The series reached a new audience this year when it received a television anime adaptation that premiered in April on Tokyo MX, BTV, and other networks. Mag Garden announced the anime as part of the manga's 10th anniversary celebration in August 2024, and HIDIVE is co-producing and streaming the adaptation internationally.

For fans who've followed Tōya's journey across more than a decade, the announcement of a definitive ending provides closure while the anime continues bringing the story to new viewers. Whether the anime will adapt through the final volume remains to be seen, but the simultaneous conclusion of both manga and anime would give the franchise a clean finish.
