RetroCrush is beefing up its anime lineup with two fresh additions: the TV adaptation of Hyakushō Kizoku (The Farmer's Days) and 500000000 Years Button, a short anime based on a story from Sōta Sugahara's Minna no Tonio-chan manga series.

Hyakushō Kizoku brings Hiromu Arakawa's personal history to the small screen. Before creating Fullmetal Alchemist, Arakawa spent seven years farming in Hokkaido—an experience that shaped her later work on Silver Spoon, her manga about agricultural students. The autobiographical series started running in Shinshokan's Unpoko magazine back in 2006 and continues sporadically today. The anime adaptation debuted on Tokyo MX in July 2023 with four-minute episodes and has already aired three seasons, with a fourth on the way. Director Yūtarō Sawada helmed the first season at Pie in the sky, also handling scripts and line direction duties.

The 500000000 Years Button anime is a much shorter affair—a quirky adaptation that originally hit streaming in July 2022 with 12 episodes. The title alone suggests the kind of absurdist humor fans might expect from a short-form series.

These additions are part of a broader RetroCrush expansion that's pulling in everything from restored classics to cult favorites. The service has recently added or is planning to add Urusei Yatsura (1981), Looking for the Full Moon, RoboGeisha, and Electric Dragon 80,000 V. Fans of retro content will also see multiple Lone Wolf and Cub releases—both films and the TV series—arriving between July and August, along with a restored HD version of Angel Cop and the original Japanese audio of Bubblegum Crisis.

For those tracking Hyakushō Kizoku specifically, the eighth manga volume compiled all 12 aired episodes from the first season plus two previously unaired episodes on DVD in December 2023, so there's supplementary material available for deeper dives into Arakawa's farming years.
