Sega is bringing the Sakura Wars franchise back to the stage for a third time. The new theatrical production, titled Shin Sakura Taisen the Stage: Seiden Tsurugi (New Sakura Wars the Stage: Tale of Truth Tsurugi), will run at Theater Sun Mall in Tokyo from September 18-27.

The cast features returning performer Yūna Sekine as Sakura Amamiya alongside a mix of new and veteran stage actors. Yūri Ōta takes on the role of Asagi Tōdō, while Chihaya Yoshitake, Haruki Iwata, Momoyo Koyama, and Uta Kawase round out the main ensemble. A larger supporting cast includes Kanon Matsuzawa, Hikari Aimura, Erina Oda, and others.

Tomoharu Suzuki returns to write and direct the adaptation, with Kōhei Tanaka composing the score and Keiko Matsumoto choreographing. The creative team built on established foundations—the original game concept comes from Ōji Hiroi, whose work has defined the Sakura Wars series since its debut.

This marks the third stage play based on the 2019 game, following productions in 2020 and 2021. The Shin Sakura Taisen game itself launched for PlayStation 4 in Japan in December 2019 and came West as Sakura Wars in April 2020. An anime television adaptation followed that same month. A three-volume manga adaptation by Koyori Noguchi also adapted the game's story.

The timing aligns with a significant milestone: the Sakura Wars franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The stage play adaptations represent the franchise's ongoing commitment to bringing its characters and stories beyond the digital realm. For longtime fans, the stage productions offer a unique way to experience the game's narrative and characters in a live theatrical setting.

The September production will be the latest chapter in the franchise's continued expansion across multiple media formats, cementing Sakura Wars' position as one of Sega's most enduring properties.
