Sega is taking the concept of character collectibles to a whole new level. For Sonic the Hedgehog's 35th anniversary, the company has partnered with Lom Baby—a collective of artists, engineers, and scientists—to create a figure unlike any other: one containing actual synthetic DNA.

The figure incorporates DNA nucleotide sequences designed to represent various Sonic characteristics, including those linked to male hedgehogs, the iconic blue coloring, leg strength, reaction speed, sense of adventure, and the ability to spin-dash. These synthesized sequences are housed inside a protective capsule within the figure's green crystal, combining biotechnology with video game nostalgia.

Lom Baby used cutting-edge biotech methods to synthesize the DNA, which Sega shared in a video on the Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel. The project reflects how far companies are willing to go to celebrate major franchise milestones—moving well beyond traditional figurines and merchandise.

The figure will be on display at Sega Store Tokyo, located on the sixth floor of the Shibuya Parco complex, starting June 23 for a limited run. While Sega hasn't confirmed whether this will become a commercial release, the company's decision to debut it in a high-profile Tokyo location suggests fans may get a chance to see it in person, even if purchasing remains uncertain.
