Aniplex of America revealed during its San Diego Comic-Con panel that "Clockwork Girl," an original anime by director Yasuomi Umetsu and studio SHAFT, will be available for digital purchase starting this September.

The film, which debuted theatrically in Japan in June 2025 at select venues in Tokyo and Osaka, opens in a cyberpunk world where illegal modifications to medical android technology called Somadea have sparked a crime epidemic. The government responds by licensing civilians as bounty hunters—paid to hunt down criminals who've illegally modified their Somadea enhancements. The story follows Ubu Kamigori, a bounty hunter whose life turns upside down when a figure from her past reappears.

Umetsu directs and handles character design, while Yūya Takahashi ("Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible") wrote the script. The animation team includes Gen'ichirou Abe, Shinya Takahashi, and Maho Kando. Umetsu is known for "Kite," "Mezzo," and the "Kiss and Cry" film.

The Japanese voice cast features Saki Miyashita as protagonist Ubu Kamigori and Katsuyuki Konishi as the mysterious Mr. Elegance, alongside Norio Wakamoto and Sumire Uesaka. The film opened at the top of Japan's mini-theater rankings when it premiered.

Aniplex of America and Fathom Entertainment brought "Clockwork Girl" to U.S. theaters in November 2025 in both Japanese audio with English subtitles and with a full English dub. The panel at Comic-Con screened a trailer of the English-dubbed version, signaling that both audio tracks will be available for the September digital release.
