Shangri-La Frontier is gearing up for its third season, and the official website just dropped a new teaser to get fans hyped. The anime will premiere in January 2027 across MBS, TBS, and 26 affiliated channels in Japan, airing Sundays at 5:00 p.m. JST.

The creative team is largely staying intact from previous seasons. Toshiyuki Kubooka (Harukana Receive, Wandering Witch - The Journey of Elaina) takes the chief director role at studio C2C, with Hiro Ōki directing and Naoki Kotani (Black Clover, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal II) as assistant director. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu returns to handle scripts, while Ayumi Kurashima comes back as character designer and chief animation director. MONACA is composing the music again.

The voice cast from seasons one and two is reprising their roles, so longtime fans can expect the same performances that made the previous seasons click.

Shangri-La Frontier follows Rakurō Hizutome, a second-year high school student obsessed with finding and conquering "shitty games." When he gets access to the new VR game Shangri-La Frontier, he does what he does best—optimizes his character and dives straight into the action, skipping the tutorial entirely. The series blends gaming culture with high-stakes adventure as Rakurō navigates a world full of surprises.

The anime's first season premiered in October 2023 and ran for two consecutive quarters. Season two followed in October 2024 with another two-cour run. Both seasons have been available on Crunchyroll as they aired in Japan, and season two even got an English dub. Expect the same streaming setup for season three.

The series is based on Katarina's web novel, with Ryōsuke Fuji handling the manga adaptation that Kodansha USA publishes in English. If you're new to the franchise or just need a refresher before season three kicks off, now's a good time to catch up on Crunchyroll.
