Sega is keeping Sonic Racing CrossWorlds fresh with a steady stream of character additions and franchise collaborations announced during Sonic's Birthday livestream.

Three new Sega characters are joining the racing game: Classic Sonic launches immediately, Axel from Crazy Taxi arrives in August, and Amigo from Samba de Amigo joins in September. The game will also add music from Sega's back catalog, pulling tracks from Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure, Feel the Magic: XY/XX, The Rub Rabbits!, and Space Channel 5.

Beyond internal Sega additions, the game has major crossovers planned. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem collaboration launches in July, followed by Avatar Legends in October. Looking ahead to Year Two, Sega confirmed collaborations with both Godzilla and Evangelion, which is notable given Evangelion's typically limited licensing deals.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds launched last September across PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game has already proven popular as a crossover vehicle, featuring characters like Hatsune Miku, Persona 5's Joker, and Like a Dragon's Ichiban. Year One crossovers also included SpongeBob SquarePants, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Minecraft.

The game received a Nintendo Switch 2 digital release in December, with a physical cartridge version shipping in March. Sega also released Sonic Frontiers - Definitive Edition on Switch 2 the same day as this announcement, offering an enhanced version of the 2022 open-world Sonic title.

Earlier, an animation project for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds debuted last August, showing Sega's commitment to expanding the property beyond the game itself. With collaborations spanning video game icons, anime franchises, and properties like Godzilla, the racer continues positioning itself as a celebration of gaming and entertainment culture.
