Spike Chunsoft has unveiled a fresh story route for its upcoming Steins;Gate Re:Boot remake. The "Gamma Worldline" follows protagonist Rintaro Okabe as he awakens in an unfamiliar timeline where the time machine was never built and D-Mails—messages that alter the past—don't exist. Stripped of his usual tools, Okabe must navigate a version of his world where even his closest lab members treat him as a stranger.

The game will roll out in two waves across North America and Europe. The digital versions for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam arrive August 20, followed by Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, and PlayStation 5 releases on October 29. Japan gets all platforms—PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam—on August 20 simultaneously. Physical editions include standard and Steelbook variants, with the latter featuring new cover art by character designer huke and a first-print bonus sticker.

This reimagining upgrades the original 2009 visual novel with modern visuals and expanded content. Huke has redesigned character clothing and accessories, while backgrounds recreate Akihabara as it appeared in 2010, including new locations absent from the original. The game uses M2's E-Mote animation system to give character sprites more detailed expressions. Additional scenes have been written specifically for Re:Boot, giving both longtime fans and newcomers fresh material.

Language support includes Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese text, though audio remains Japanese-only. The game's release was originally planned for 2025 but shifted to 2026.

Steins;Gate debuted as MAGES.' second Science Adventure Series project and spawned the beloved 2011 anime adaptation, followed by the 2013 film Load Region of Déjà Vu. The franchise marked its 15th anniversary last October with a streaming movie that promised the story would continue—and Re:Boot appears to be fulfilling that promise with an entirely new worldline to explore.
