Summer Time Rendering is heading to the big screen. The franchise announced a live-action film adaptation for 2027, with Ken Ninomiya directing. The announcement dropped on July 22, 2026, deliberately timed to match the in-story date when the series' events kick off.

This isn't the first time the suspense manga has gotten the live-action treatment greenlit. Back in 2021, a live-action project was announced alongside the anime adaptation, but development apparently took some time to materialize.

For those unfamiliar with the property, Summer Time Rendering follows Shinpei, who returns to his hometown of Wakayama City after hearing about his childhood friend Ushio's death. What starts as a funeral quickly becomes something far stranger—the island holds mysteries that pull Shinpei into a suspenseful, time-bending narrative.

Yasuki Tanaka's manga originally ran on Shonen Jump+ starting in October 2017, wrapping up with its 13th volume in April 2021. The anime came next, premiering in April 2022 with director Ayumu Watanabe (Space Brothers, Children of the Sea) at the helm. That 25-episode adaptation aired on Tokyo MX and BS11 in Japan, while Disney+ handled worldwide streaming and exclusivity in Japan. Hulu carried it in the U.S.

The anime covered the entire manga, giving viewers a complete story. The franchise has also expanded beyond animation—a video game launched on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in January 2023.

English-language readers got access to the manga through Shueisha's MANGA Plus service starting in January 2019, with Udon Entertainment handling the print release.

With the live-action film still over a year away, details about casting, plot specifics, and a more precise release date remain under wraps. For now, fans can look forward to seeing how the franchise translates its time-loop mystery to live-action cinema in 2027.
