Canadian publisher BDP Press has announced plans to bring Battan's THE GOLDEN FLY manga to English readers through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign that launched this week.

The campaign, which runs through June 22, is already performing well—it's raised over CAD$2,906 (approximately US$2,098) against a goal of CAD$800 (roughly US$577). Backers can expect to receive their copies in July, with advanced copies available at The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) on June 6-7, where Battan will be appearing as a guest.

THE GOLDEN FLY (known as Kinbae in Japanese) marks another title from manga creator Battan to receive English localization. The artist has built a solid catalog in recent years, with multiple works gaining international attention. Battan's Fatale Game debuted in Kodansha's Kiss magazine last May and is being published in English through K MANGA. Another series, Run Away With Me, Girl, saw English releases from Kodansha USA Publishing in 2022 and 2023.

Battan's work has also crossed into live-action adaptation—the manga Kemutai Ane to Zurui Imōto (Annoying and Cunning Sisters) inspired a Japanese television drama in 2023. The creator also released the web manga Soshite Heroine wa Inaku natta (And Then There Were No Heroines), which ran across multiple platforms before concluding in April 2025.

BDP Press, the in-house publisher for The Beguiling, is based out of the beloved Toronto comic shop and has become known for bringing independent and international manga to North American audiences. The Kickstarter approach allows them to gauge reader interest while funding the physical print production directly from fans.
