Kadokawa has officially announced the January 2027 debut for The Kept Man of the Princess Knight anime, alongside a new teaser video and character visuals that introduce the show's main cast and creative team.

The series adapts Toru Shirogane's light novel, which won the 28th annual Dengeki Novel Awards grand prize and has circulated over 200,000 copies. The story follows Matthew, a seemingly worthless man who accompanies Arwin, the legendary Crimson Princess Knight, on her quest to find treasure that could save her fallen kingdom. Despite appearing to be nothing more than a cowardly drunk who squanders her money, Matthew harbors hidden depths that the city—and even Arwin herself—have yet to discover.

Chihiro Kumano, director of A Couple of Cuckoos and Eiga Odekake Kozame Tokai no Tomodachi, heads the production at BLADE studio. Character designer Hisao Ishii brings the original light novel designs by Saki Mashima to animation, while Deko Akao (After the Rain, Arakawa Under the Bridge) handles the series scripts.

The voice cast includes Junichi Suwabe as Matthew and Mikako Komatsu as Arwin. Behind the scenes, the production boasts a robust crew: composer Taku Iwasaki (known for Jujutsu Kaisen), sound director Satoshi Motoyama, and action director Hibiki Yamaguchi. Visual departments span multiple studios including Yumeta Company for 2D work and Recommendation, Inc. handling prop and monster design.

Yen Press publishes the light novels and manga adaptation in English, with the sixth novel volume arriving August 11. The manga, illustrated by Keyyang, already has three volumes in circulation. With an established fanbase from both the light novel and manga, the anime adaptation arrives with significant momentum heading into 2027.
