The Last Terran Manga Moves to Full Serialization
The Last Terran, a one-shot that debuted in Kodansha's Young Magazine US English issue last year, will launch as an ongoing series on August 20. Writer Hiroshi Takashige and artist Tatsumi Hitomoji's work is one of four additional titles selected for serialization following strong reader response.
Kodansha announced that Hiroshi Takashige and Tatsumi Hitomoji's The Last Terran will begin serialization in the September issue of Monthly Young Magazine on August 20, moving from its debut as a one-shot in the Young Magazine US English special issue last August.
The manga is one of four additional works chosen for serialization beyond the five winners of Kodansha's Young Magazine US project. According to the magazine's staff, the selection considered not only poll results but also "the brilliance of the talent" and "lingering impact" of the works. The other three additional titles are To Dusk and Twilight, Boys Run the Riot -In Transition-, and Protocol Ryugu.
The series will run simultaneously on Kodansha's K MANGA app and in Japan through Monthly Young Magazine and/or YanMaga Web. Two other works from the same project have already launched: Daisuke Itabashi's The Journey of a Dark Elf with Fading Powers began serialization in January 2026, and Ray Kindō's The Knight of Blasphemy (Tokushin no Chevalier) started in the August issue on July 16.
Takashige has a long track record in manga. He co-created Spriggan with artist Ryōji Minagawa starting in 1989, which became a 1998 anime film and inspired a 2022 Netflix anime series by david production. He also co-wrote Until Death Do Us Part with artist DOUBLE-S, which ended in November 2015 and was published in English by Yen Press. His work with artist Jun Rokumoto on RDB (Red Data Book) ran from November 2016 until August 2019 in Young Gangan.
