The Rising of the Shield Hero is gearing up for its fifth season, with Kadokawa and Crunchyroll officially announcing the project at Anime Expo this week. The new teaser trailer and accompanying visual confirm the anime will debut in 2027, with Crunchyroll handling the streaming duties.

Most of the core creative team is sticking around for another round. Director Hitoshi Haga returns alongside assistant director Takanori Yamamoto and series composition writer Keigo Koyanagi. Studio Kinema Citrus continues as the production studio. The character design team—Franziska van Wulfen, Masahiro Suwa, and Sana Komatsu—are all back as well.

Behind the scenes, the crew includes returning composer Kevin Penkin alongside Alfredo Sirica and Natalie Jeffreys on music. The same sound team from previous seasons returns too, with Fumiyuki Go and Tetsuya Gunji handling sound direction. There are a few fresh faces on the technical side: Airi Hayashi steps in as art director, replacing Junichi Higashi from season 4, while Tsunetaka Ema shifts from season 3's director of photography to lead the camera work this time around.

The voice cast remains unchanged from season 4, which premiered last July. Crunchyroll streamed that season with an English dub included, and fans can expect the same treatment for season 5.

The franchise has been a steady presence since its January 2019 debut, which launched as a two-hour special before continuing as a full series. Season 2 arrived in April 2022, followed by Season 3's 12-episode run in October 2023. Season 4 kept up momentum in summer 2025. One Peace Books continues releasing the original light novel series and manga adaptation in English for Western readers.

With 2027 on the horizon, fans still have time to catch up on the series before the next chapter arrives.
