The English dub for Though I Am an Inept Villainess is arriving this weekend. TOHO announced the voice cast and premiere details for the anime adaptation of Satsuki Nakamura's light novel, which follows a body-swap story set in a historical China-inspired kingdom.

The dub launches Sunday, July 26 at 11:45 a.m. EDT on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Disney+, with Netflix carrying it in Asia. The cast includes Brianna Knickerbocker as protagonist Kou Reirin, Rebecca Wang as Shu Keigetsu, Kaiji Tang as Ei Gyoumei, and Aleks Le as Shin-u. Lizzie Freeman voices Leelee, while Mori Calliope rounds out the cast as Kou Tousetsu.

The story centers on Kou Reirin, a frail and beautiful maiden positioned to become empress. During the Lantern Festival, she's body-swapped with Shu Keigetsu—a court outcast seeking to steal Reirin's position. The twist: Reirin wakes up in the dungeons with Keigetsu's strong body, and despite facing execution, she's ready to navigate the imperial court's dangers on her own terms.

Dōga Kōbō is handling animation under director Mitsue Yamazaki, known for How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? and Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun. Yoshiko Nakamura oversees the scripts, while character designer Ai Kikuchi previously worked on Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie and New Game!

The opening theme "Sunny" is performed by singer-songwriter milet, with Rokudenashi handling the ending theme "Shooting Star."

The anime premiered on TV Tokyo on July 12, with simultaneous streaming on Netflix in Asia and Crunchyroll in North America. Seven Seas publishes both the light novels and manga adaptation under the full English title Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court.
