Hiroyasu Kobayashi, known for his CGI direction on the Rebuild of Evangelion films, is heading up a new anime adaptation of AREA35's turn-based tactical strategy game Tiny Metal. The project, produced by SAFEHOUSE (the team behind Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance), had its pilot episode premiere at Japan Expo 2026 on July 9 in Paris.

The anime follows Major Nathan Gries, a commander in the Kingdom of Artemisia who believes the only way to protect the world is to locate and secure ancient war machines known as Lost Tech before they fall into enemy hands. When an unknown signal appears beneath the Northridge Alps, Gries teams up with Lord General Isoroku Tsukumo and Wolfram, leader of the White Fangs, to investigate.

The character design comes from Yūsuke Kozaki, who worked on Fire Emblem. During the Tiny Metal panel at Japan Expo, Kozaki did a live drawing of Lysandra Echo, a new character coming to the upcoming Tiny Metal 2 game. The anime's music will be composed by Gō Shiina, who scored Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

SAFEHOUSE is also handling cinematics for Tiny Metal 2, the sequel scheduled for a spring 2027 release on PC via Steam (originally planned for 2026). The new game expands on the original's mechanics with naval battles and units, introducing fresh commanders and a story set years after the first game. The sequel features voice acting from Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Daisuke Ono, and Kenichirō Matsuda, among others.

AREA35, a Tokyo-based developer founded by Eminence Symphony Orchestra founder Hiroaki Yura, originally released Tiny Metal for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2017. A sequel, Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble, followed for Switch and PC in 2019. With the anime adaptation and upcoming Tiny Metal 2, the franchise appears to be entering a new phase of growth.
