Netflix's new live-action series Teach You a Lesson made an immediate impact, debuting at No. 5 on the global streaming charts on June 5 according to FlixPatrol. The adaptation claimed the top spot in South Korea and the Philippines, and landed in the top 5 across 32 regions including Mexico, Chile, the UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore.

The series adapts the webtoon Get Schooled, which has run on Naver Webtoon since November 2020. Written by Yong-taek Chae and illustrated by Ga-ram Han, the story follows Hwa-jin Na, an officer from the Ministry of Education's Teacher Protection Bureau, who works to restore order in schools after a law banning corporal punishment passes. The narrative centers on the tension between maintaining authority and delivering justice in educational settings.

While Get Schooled built a following for its satisfying narratives driven by state power intervention, the original webtoon faced criticism for portraying marginalized groups—particularly women and people of color—as antagonists, often resolving conflicts through violence. Director Jong-chan Hong has acknowledged these concerns, previously stating that the drama adaptation would handle the material with greater sensitivity and care.

The property has had a complicated English-language release history. Ablaze Publishing is releasing the series in print, while WEBTOON Entertainment previously offered the digital series in English before removing it from their service.

This Netflix debut marks a significant moment for webtoon adaptations, which have become increasingly common on streaming platforms. The show's strong performance across multiple regions suggests growing international appetite for Korean webtoon-based content, particularly stories centered on institutional conflict and reform.
