Two of the season's most anticipated fantasy anime are joining forces. Witch Hat Atelier and Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke have released a collaboration visual featuring the main characters from both series standing alongside their mentors—Coco with Qifrey, and Rozemyne with Ferdinand.

The timing makes sense, as both shows are wrapping up their current TV runs. Rather than fade quietly into the night, the franchises are planning additional crossover projects beyond this initial artwork.

What makes the collaboration particularly interesting is the genuine creative connection between the two creators. Kamome Shirahama (Witch Hat Atelier) and Miya Kazuki (Ascendance of a Bookworm) have publicly admired each other's work for years and previously collaborated on a crossover short story. To mark this visual, they participated in a lengthy discussion about their anime adaptations and artistic approaches.

Shirahama praised Ascendance of a Bookworm's emotional depth and ending sequences, while Kazuki highlighted how faithfully Studio BUG FILMS recreated Shirahama's intricate artwork and magic system. The authors also had fun speculating about their characters' dynamics—suggesting Coco and Rozemyne would quickly become friends, while their mentors would maintain a careful, secretive distance from one another.

Witch Hat Atelier, the award-winning fantasy manga by Shirahama serialized in Kodansha's Morning Two since 2016, is animated by Studio BUG FILMS. The series follows Coco as she discovers the world of magic and trains under the mysterious mage Qifrey.

Ascendance of a Bookworm began as a web novel in 2013 before being published in print by TO Books. The anime premiered in 2019 with seasons following in 2020 and 2022. The current installment, handled by WIT Studio, adapts the Adopted Daughter of an Archduke arc and follows Rozemyne's journey as she integrates into her new noble family while pursuing her love of books.

With both series reaching natural conclusion points, this collaboration offers fans a fun send-off while keeping the door open for future crossover content.
