Witch Hat Atelier is getting a second season, and the first glimpse arrived this weekend at Anime Expo. The production staff unveiled a teaser video on Friday, building anticipation for what comes next after the first season's April debut.

Director Ayumu Watanabe returns to helm the series alongside producer Hiroaki Kojima at animation studio BUG FILMS. The core creative team also includes character designer Kairi Unabara and composer Yuka Kitamura, who previously worked on Elden Ring's soundtrack. Joining them are returning staff like series script supervisor Hiroshi Seko, known for his work on numerous high-profile projects.

The first season adapted Kamome Shirahama's manga, which follows Coco, a girl from a small village who dreams of becoming a wizard despite being born without magical talent. When a traveling wizard named Qifrey arrives in her town and performs magic, her life changes forever. The season premiered on Tokyo MX and other Japanese channels before Crunchyroll streamed it internationally with both subtitled and English-dubbed options.

Shirahama's manga has been running since 2016 in Kodansha's Morning two magazine and has built a substantial following. The series has earned multiple accolades, including a Best Manga award at the Harvey Awards in 2020 and again in 2025. It was nominated for the Angoulême International Comics Festival's Best Comic award and appeared on the American Library Association's YALSA Top Ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. With 7 million copies in circulation worldwide and an English release from Kodansha USA Publishing, the manga maintains strong reader interest across multiple regions.

The opening theme for season one, "Kaze no Anthem feat. suis from yorushika" by Eve and suis, became a fan favorite alongside the ending themes by Nakamura Hak. With the returning production team and growing manga success, season two appears poised to continue the story when it arrives.
