Writer Ichiha Hiiragi and artist mimita are bringing a new manga to readers this month. Shogakukan's Manga ONE service announced that Kanade-kun no Shugorei Yarimasu! (I'll Be Kanade-kun's Guardian Spirit!) launches on July 15.

The series follows Iroha, a high school girl with an unusual perspective on the afterlife. She's perfectly content becoming a ghost if it means she can serve as the guardian spirit of Kanade-kun, a pianist she's deeply in love with. It's a sweet premise that blends romance with supernatural elements.

Hiiragi revealed the project has had quite a journey to publication. According to the writer, work on the manga began three to four years ago, but progress stalled after a serious car accident. The delay explains the gap between the initial concept and the official announcement.

This isn't Hiiragi's first collaboration with fellow creators. The writer previously worked with artist Nagi Ōkawa on Playing the Vixen to Find Happiness, which launched on Kodansha's Palcy service in November 2024. That series is still ongoing, with its fourth volume released in May. Kodansha's K MANGA service makes the series available in English.

Hiiragi has built an impressive catalog of adapted works across multiple platforms. The writer's story On Her 94th Reincarnation, This Villainess Became the Heroine! received a manga adaptation by Touka Takauchi that ran on Manga ONE from early 2021 through September 2022, with English translations available through Comikey. Additionally, two other Hiiragi stories—The Emperor's Caretaker and The Useless Saint and the Cursed Holy Knight—have manga adaptations currently in circulation through Square Enix and Kodansha's platforms.

With this new July launch, Hiiragi continues building momentum despite the setbacks of the past few years. Fans interested in checking out Kanade-kun no Shugorei Yarimasu! can find it on Manga ONE starting July 15.
