Yellow Tanabe's ongoing manga series Kai-hen Wizards is returning to Weekly Shonen Sunday this month. The creator announced Tuesday that the series will resume in the magazine's 35th issue on July 29.

Kai-hen Wizards has had a rocky serialization schedule since its debut. Tanabe launched the series in September 2024, but it went on hiatus in January 2025, returned in April, then went on break again in June before coming back in November. The latest hiatus began in February of this year.

The manga follows a young boy forced to live in exile to prevent his dangerous magical abilities from destroying the world. Viz Media provides English simulpub translations of the series, which has already reached four compiled volumes, with the most recent releasing in June.

Tanabe is no stranger to long-running serializations. She's best known for Kekkaishi, which ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 2003 to 2011 and spawned a television anime series that aired from 2006 to 2008. The Kekkaishi anime was later released on home video through Discotek Media, which put out a Blu-ray collection in June 2022.

Between Kekkaishi and Kai-hen Wizards, Tanabe created Birdmen, another Weekly Shonen Sunday series that ran from July 2013 to February 2020.

With Kai-hen Wizards resuming on July 29, fans will finally get new chapters after a five-month wait. The series' publication history suggests readers should stay patient—frequent hiatuses appear to be part of Tanabe's current publishing reality, though the return date offers a concrete restart point for the story.
