TV Tokyo has pulled back the curtain on its upcoming anime adaptation of Yuruyuru Zukan (Gentle Picture Book), releasing a teaser video that introduces the cast and creative team behind the project.

Emi Nitta voices Hato (Pigeon), the guide character who leads viewers through each episode's educational content. The anime is being directed by Keizō Abe at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio, with Taeko Miura handling sound direction and Yoko Sakurai managing sound effects. Yūta Tamura is composing the original music, while RD is producing the audio mix. Kazuya Takahashi oversees production supervision.

This short-format series will debut within the Sunday program Animori! on TV Tokyo and five affiliated channels starting in October 2026.

Yuruyuru Zukan began as a book series in June 2017, designed as accessible reading material featuring cute artwork and four-panel manga that makes learning engaging—even when covering traditionally "scary" topics. The books focus on animal facts and trivia, ranging from modern species to extinct creatures like dinosaurs and cryptids such as Bigfoot. This educational approach makes it a natural fit for a children's anime adaptation.

The choice to format the anime as short episodes aligns with the book series' bite-sized presentation style, making it ideal for the Sunday morning Animori! block, which targets younger audiences. By pairing animal knowledge with appealing character design and straightforward storytelling, the production team is positioning the series as both entertaining and informative.

With a respected director leading the project and experienced sound professionals on board, Yuruyuru Zakan appears to be getting the care needed to translate the book's charm to animation. The October premiere will mark the first animated adaptation of Gakken's popular educational property.
