Zeikin de Katta Hon Manga Gets Both Anime and Live-Action Adaptations
Kodansha announced that Zuino's manga Zeikin de Katta Hon (Books Bought with Tax) will receive both a television anime adaptation and a live-action drama series. The publisher revealed an announcement visual alongside details about the live-action production.
The live-action drama will premiere on NHK General TV during summer 2026, airing from 10:45-11:00 p.m. Japanese actor Daiken Okudaira, known for his role in Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia, will star as the main character. The drama will be directed by Tomoki Sakanashi (Saraba, yoki hi) and Hiroyuki Mu.
Zeikin de Katta Hon follows the story of a high school delinquent who finds himself working at a library. The manga explores themes of personal growth and finding purpose through unexpected circumstances, as the protagonist discovers new perspectives through his work environment.
While specific details about the anime adaptation haven't been revealed yet, having both formats announced simultaneously shows Kodansha's confidence in the source material's appeal across different audiences. The dual adaptation approach allows fans to experience the story through both mediums.
The original manga by Zuino has been building a dedicated following, making it an interesting choice for adaptation. Library settings in anime and live-action often provide unique storytelling opportunities, combining everyday workplace dynamics with character development.
Fans can expect more details about both adaptations, including anime studio, cast, and release dates, in the coming months.
