20th Century Creates School Song for Mie Prefecture Middle School
20th Century has composed an original school song for Mie Prefecture's Mie Yotsuba-gasaki Middle School. The song, titled "Kibou no Hito" (Person of Hope), will make its debut at the school's graduation ceremony on March 14.
The Johnny & Associates group worked closely with both faculty and students during the creative process, engaging in dialogue to understand the school's values and spirit before crafting the final composition.
About 20th Century
For international fans who might be unfamiliar, 20th Century is a Johnny & Associates group that debuted in 1999. The unit consists of members Masayuki Sakamoto, Ken Miyake, Yoshihiko Inohara, Hiroshi Nagano, and Koichi Domoto's younger brother Tsuyoshi Domoto. While they may not have the global recognition of groups like Arashi or KAT-TUN, 20th Century has maintained a steady presence in the Japanese entertainment industry for over two decades.
School Song Tradition
School songs hold special significance in Japanese culture, often serving as a source of pride and unity for students and alumni. Having a popular J-Pop group create an original school song is quite rare and represents a meaningful honor for the institution.
The collaboration between 20th Century and Mie Yotsuba-gasaki Middle School demonstrates how J-Pop artists continue to find ways to connect with their communities beyond traditional performances and recordings. "Kibou no Hito" will become part of the school's identity, sung by future generations of students long after this year's graduates have moved on.
