7co is officially stepping into the major leagues. The music project led by vocalist Ashida Nanako and producer RYUJA will mark its major-label debut by creating the opening theme for the second season of "Kimi to Boku ga Shoutai," a romance comedy anime adapted from Aka Agasawa's manga series that's sold over 2.1 million copies.

The opening theme, "Neko Jarashi," arrives as a digital release on July 5—the same day the anime's second season premieres on MBS and TBS at 5 p.m. A physical CD release follows on July 22.

7co has built a following since 2022 with a blend of hip-hop and R&B foundations paired with pop sensibilities and emotionally relatable lyrics. Recent singles "0.0000%" and "Enren Koishou" dropped consecutively in early 2025, establishing momentum ahead of this debut.

For "Neko Jarashi," 7co drew direct inspiration from the anime's protagonist Suzuki, deliberately shifting into a slightly different vocal register during recording. In a statement, the artist explained the creative direction: "When reading the source material, I seriously searched for a way to become a student again. I loved Taniguy's cat 'Tempura' so much that my initial demo had 'Tempura' in every lyric." The final track trades that reference for "neko jarashi"—a common grass plant—to express "the tickle of first love and youth woven into everyday moments."

The anime itself tells the story of two opposite high schoolers: Suzuki, perpetually upbeat but self-conscious, and Tani, quiet but strong-willed. Their gradual understanding and school adventures with friends form the series' heart. The first season, which aired in January 2026, resonated with audiences, setting the stage for this comeback.

"Neko Jarashi" includes three versions on the CD release: the full track, an anime edit, and an instrumental. You can catch the opening theme in action via the anime's latest promotional video on YouTube. The series continues streaming weekly on ABEMA and Prime Video starting July 5.
