Anime music artist ZAQ recently sat down to discuss her career and recent performances, including a show at Saitama Super Arena that drew 37,000 fans. The singer, known for opening themes to hits like "Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!" and "Classroom of the Elite," opened up about what drives her work in the anisong world.

When asked about her proudest contributions, ZAQ highlighted "Sparkling Daydream," her debut song and opening theme for "Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!" She also named "VOICE" from the anime's second season and "Classroom," the opening for "Classroom of the Elite," which helped establish her wider recognition.

ZAQ emphasized that creating anime music comes with unique constraints. "The hardest part is the specific time limit," she explained, noting that fitting an anime's entire essence into roughly 90 seconds requires precision. However, she frames this limitation as creatively rewarding rather than restrictive.

Her recent work showcases significant range—from rock-heavy themes for "Food Wars!" and "Black Rock Shooter" to the cute, electronic style of "Dramatic Overlay" from "Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai." ZAQ credits this versatility to her deep knowledge of anime music across genres. "Because I've listened to so many different anime songs, I have the desire to express various sides of myself," she said.

Despite the scale difference between intimate venues and massive arenas like Saitama Super Arena, ZAQ maintains the same approach to every performance. "In terms of feelings, there's no real difference," she noted. "I've always performed with the mindset of fulfilling my mission to deliver my music to the audience in front of me."

The Saitama show also marked ZAQ's first time DJing, an experience she described as an opportunity to showcase different facets of her artistry. Between her songwriting work, live performances, and expanding into DJ sets, ZAQ continues to push herself within the anime music space.
