FLAKE RECORDS, the independent record shop that's been a staple in Osaka's Minami-Horie district since 2006, is throwing a celebration befitting its two-decade milestone. The shop is hosting "FLAKE RECORDS 20TH," a festival split across September 12 and 13 at Osaka-jo Music Hall.

The lineup reads like a who's who of Japan's indie and alternative scene. Day one brings Age Factory, Elephant Gym, LOSTAGE, MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS, and MONO NO AWARE. Day two features ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, group_inou, Riddim Saunter, Tempalay, and んoon.

What makes this event particularly fitting is that every artist on the bill has released music on vinyl. Store owner DAWA reflected on the shop's unlikely journey in a statement, noting that when FLAKE RECORDS opened in 2006, physical records seemed like a relic of the past. CDs dominated and streaming didn't exist yet. Against those odds, the tiny shop in a Osaka building began importing vinyl from overseas and built a loyal following.

"All of these bands will deliver incredible live performances," DAWA said, adding that the outdoor September timing should provide ideal conditions for what promises to be a memorable gathering.

Tickets are available through Ticketpia, with the second wave of presales running through June 7 at 11:59 PM. Both single-day and two-day passes are available. There's also a special ticket bundle that includes a limited-edition T-shirt designed by Takehisa Gomi from LOSTAGE.

The festival doors open at 1:15 PM with performances starting at 2:00 PM on both days. For fans of Japanese independent music, this is a rare opportunity to see multiple acts in one setting while supporting a shop that's been championing vinyl and independent releases for two decades.
