Japanese artist Furoshiki has announced their debut album "Tsutsumi" (぀぀み), set for release on April 22nd through indie label KiliKiliVilla. The album will be available exclusively on cassette tape, embracing the retro format that's seen a resurgence among independent artists.

The title "Tsutsumi" translates to "wrapping" or "package," which creates a clever play on words with the artist's name - "furoshiki" refers to the traditional Japanese wrapping cloths used to transport goods.

To celebrate the release, Furoshiki will hold a pre-sale event in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo's bohemian neighborhood known for its thriving indie music scene. The area has long been a hub for underground and alternative artists, making it a fitting location for this cassette-focused release.

The choice to release on cassette tape reflects a growing trend among Japanese indie musicians who are embracing analog formats for their intimate sound quality and collectible appeal. For international fans, cassette releases often become sought-after items due to their limited production runs.

This marks an important milestone for Furoshiki as they step into the album format after building their reputation in Japan's indie scene. The KiliKiliVilla label has been supporting unique and experimental artists, making them a natural fit for this unconventional release approach.

Fans attending the Shimokitazawa event will get the first chance to hear the full album and purchase the limited cassette edition before the wider April 22nd release date.
