Japan Expo Malaysia (JEMY) 2026 returns for its seventh edition next month with AKB48 as the headline act. The group will perform on July 25 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, their first Malaysian concert since 2024.

The three-day expo runs July 24–26 with free admission to the public. Beyond the AKB48 concert, the event will feature more than 50 exhibitors showcasing Japanese cuisine, travel destinations, education, and lifestyle products, alongside anime and cosplay programming. Over 20 Japanese and Malaysian performers are scheduled across the three days, including traditional Awa Odori dance from Tokushima Prefecture and contemporary performances from groups like Banzai Japan, Kotomen, Nakano Himawari, Rina Hime, and KLP48.

AKB48 fans will get an early listen to the group's upcoming single 「好きish」 (Sukisshu), due for official release in Japan on August 19. Concert attendees will be among the first to hear the new track.

The expo is officially recognised as part of Malaysia's Visit Malaysia Year 2026 calendar and aims to strengthen cultural and tourism ties between the two nations. The event will also host the Japan Expo Malaysia Awards 2026, honouring nine individuals and organisations for their contributions to Japan–Malaysia relations. A cosplay competition with a RM10,000 prize pool is open to enthusiasts nationwide.

The opening ceremony will feature Malaysian singer-songwriter Mimly alongside Japanese performer Naomichi Hanazono.

Japan Expo Malaysia is one of the region's largest cultural showcases, bringing together Japanese business, entertainment, and cultural institutions under one roof. With free entry and a packed three-day schedule, JEMY 2026 is shaping up to be a major draw for Japanese pop culture fans across Southeast Asia.
