AKB48 to Headline Japan Expo Malaysia 2026 with Free Entry
AKB48 will perform at Japan Expo Malaysia on July 25, 2026, marking their first Malaysian concert in nearly two years. The three-day festival runs July 24–26 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with free admission and over 50 exhibitors.

Japan Expo Malaysia returns for its seventh edition this summer with free public admission and a lineup anchored by AKB48's exclusive concert.
The expo runs July 24–26, 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. AKB48 will perform on July 25, their first concert in Malaysia since 2024. Fans will hear the group debut its upcoming single 「好きish」 (Sukisshu) before its Japanese release on August 19.
Beyond the headliner, the three-day event features more than 50 exhibitors and over 20 Japanese and Malaysian performers. The programme mixes traditional acts—including Awa Odori dance performances from Tokushima Prefecture—with contemporary J-Pop and idol performances from artists including Banzai Japan, Kotomen, Nakano Himawari, Rina Hime and KLP48. The opening ceremony will showcase Malaysian singer-songwriter Mimly alongside Japanese performer Naomichi Hanazono.
The expo showcases Japanese cuisine, travel, education, lifestyle products and anime, with a cosplay competition offering RM10,000 in prizes. Japan Expo Malaysia is an official event under the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 calendar and aims to strengthen cultural and business ties between the two countries. The event also honours contributions to Japan–Malaysia relations through the Japan Expo Malaysia Awards 2026, recognising nine individuals and organisations.
AKB48 has maintained an international presence since debuting in 2005, and this performance underscores the group's continued appeal across Asia.
