JO1's Mamehara Issei is stepping into acting with his television drama debut, and he's bringing his music along for the ride.

The 27-year-old will co-star in "Husband and Wife and 16-Year-Old: The Madness Next Door" (夫婦と16歳～狂気の隣人～), a romantic horror series based on a manga by pampukkin that runs in Shonen Jump+. The drama airs on TV Tokyo starting July 2, with Mamehara playing Hiroshi, a newlywed husband who catches the attention of his eccentric new neighbor.

Casting opposite him is veteran actress Katase Natsuno, who plays Yoshiko, a 61-year-old woman who identifies as 16 and becomes obsessed with Hiroshi after moving in next door. The premise follows Yoshiko's increasingly unhinged pursuit as her feelings spiral into chaos.

What makes this project special for Mamehara is that he's not just acting—he's also performing the opening theme. Under his solo project name MÁME, he'll sing "Murasakiiro" (紫色), a track that captures Yoshiko's conflicted emotions through lyrics like "It's all for me, right?" Mamehara expressed his excitement in a statement: "Being able to perform the opening theme while making my drama debut as a co-lead is incredibly fulfilling. I recorded this while still shooting, which kept everything fresh and genuine."

The ending theme comes from rock band FRIDAY CATS with their new song "Doppelgänger," which explores themes of duality—fitting for a story about conflicting sides of the same person.

The cast also includes Yanagi Yurena as Yoshiko's acquaintance Natsumi and Natsuki Yoko as Yoshiko's close friend. A 60-second preview is available on YouTube.

Mamehara's acting work follows his established solo music career with JO1, making this a rare opportunity to combine both talents on screen. The drama premieres July 2 at 12:30 AM on TV Tokyo and affiliated stations.
