JUN SKY WALKER(S), the iconic four-piece rock band that dominated Japan's music scene in the late 80s and 90s, is bringing a festival to their leader's roots. The group will host "Densetsu Beppu" (Electric Beppu) on May 22-23, 2027, at the Beppu Beacon Plaza complex in Beppu, Oita Prefecture.

Guitar player Morijunya, who also serves as a Beppu Tourism Ambassador, will personally invite artists to perform at the event. The festival aims to unite music and the town's famous hot spring culture, creating what organizers describe as a "new rock festival where music and the hot spring district connect."

The band hasn't released specific lineup details yet, but the concept centers on artists Morijunya currently wants audiences to hear. More information about performers and ticket sales will be announced later.

The timing comes as JUN SKY WALKER(S) marks a creative milestone of their own. On May 21, 2026, they released "Dekkkai Taiyou" (Big Sun), their first new track in roughly a year. The song and its music video arrived the same day the festival announcement dropped, giving fans fresh material from the group.

JUN SKY WALKER(S) emerged from Tokyo's Harajuku pedestrian shopping streets in the late 80s, eventually becoming one of the era's biggest rock acts with hits like "Aruiteikou" (Let's Walk), "White Christmas," and "START." After breaking up in 1997, they reunited for performances starting in 2007. The band has remained active since their official reformation, balancing group work with solo projects.

With nearly a decade until the festival, the announcement gives fans and the music community plenty of time to mark their calendars. For a band with deep roots in Beppu, bringing a major rock event home represents both a homecoming and a statement about the band's continued relevance in Japan's live music landscape.
