King Gnu has released GO GHOST as the opening theme for the new Ghost in the Shell TV anime, arriving on digital platforms July 29 alongside a music video on the band's YouTube channel. The track pairs hip-hop rhythms with synthetic textures that echo the anime's core concept of artificial life and cybernetic enhancement in a near-future setting.

The music video matches that aesthetic, layering anime footage with a retro-futuristic color palette that grounds the futuristic story in a vintage visual language. Bandleader Daiki Tsuneta, who handles vocals and guitar for King Gnu, also collaborated on the ending theme Blue—but through MILLENNIUM PARADE, his separate musical project. This marks the first time King Gnu and MILLENNIUM PARADE have both contributed to the same anime production.

King Gnu has become a go-to name for anime soundtracks. The four-piece—rounded out by Yu Seki (drums and samples), Kazuki Arai (bass), and Satoru Iguchi (vocals and keyboard)—first broke through with Ichizu and Sakayume, the opening and ending themes for the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film in 2021. Their follow-up SPECIALZ, which opened Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, racked up over 100 million streams in just two and a half months. The band has since scored additional Jujutsu Kaisen content, including AIZO for The Culling Game Part 1.

They describe their sound as "Tokyo New Mixture Style"—a fusion of alternative rock with other genres that keeps their work fresh across projects. Since forming in April 2017, they've built a reputation for crafting tracks that match the identity of the stories they score.

The new Ghost in the Shell anime comes from Science SARU, the studio behind acclaimed works including the Golden Globe-nominated Inu-oh and the series DAN DA DAN. The original Ghost in the Shell manga launched in 1989 and has since expanded across anime, live-action film, and games, becoming one of cyberpunk's most influential properties. This TV series is the latest chapter in that legacy.
