Kurayamisaka is dropping a self-cover of "Sagittarius" tomorrow, May 20. The five-piece Tokyo-based alternative rock band takes on the track with a fresh arrangement that highlights their signature sound.

The song has an interesting history. Guitarist and vocalist Seishiro Shimizu wrote "Sagittarius" and provided it to artist RAY last December, with the original version featuring contributions from bassist Rimpei Asami (yubiori) and drummer Yosuke Hotta. Now Kurayamisaka reclaims the track with their own interpretation.

On Kurayamisaka's version, vocalist Natsuki Naito's ethereal voice floats over thick, distorted guitars that give the track a dynamic, atmospheric quality. The band has transformed the song into something that feels distinctly theirs—showcasing the emotional depth beneath the noise-driven production.

The release comes as Kurayamisaka continues riding momentum from a breakout year. The band won a main stage slot at Fuji Rock 2025 after impressing voters at last year's festival. They've also earned recognition from the UK music publication NME, which named them among the 100 most exciting emerging artists worldwide for 2025. Their debut full-length album "kurayamisaka yori ai wo komete" dropped in September, followed by an extensive tour run.

Currently, Kurayamisaka is in the middle of their two-man tour "kurayamisaka tte, doko? #7," with all dates sold out. Due to overwhelming demand, they've added an extra show: a solo performance at Osaka's Gorilla Hall on October 25. The Tokyo date at Zepp DiverCity on October 17 sold out immediately. Tickets for the Osaka show are available through a family mart pre-order lottery via Eplus.

This self-cover is yet another sign of Kurayamisaka's expanding influence in the Japanese alternative rock scene—one where they're not just performing other artists' work, but defining their own sonic identity.
