MISIA has been tapped as a new MC for NHK's "Intellectual Frontier: Tamori & Shinya Yamanaka's !?," the network announced. The R&B legend will join comedian Tamori and Nobel Prize-winning stem cell researcher Shinya Yamanaka to explore big questions about science and the world.

MISIA's debut episode airs July 4 and focuses on "What is the universe?"—a theme that feels personal to her. Born on Tanabata (July 7), the star of the night festival celebrating the meeting of celestial lovers, MISIA noted in her comments that she's felt a natural connection to astronomy throughout her life. "The universe is a theme that calls for imagination, and I hope viewers will enjoy exchanging ideas with others while watching," she said.

The collaboration isn't entirely new ground. MISIA previously appeared alongside Tamori and Yamanaka in last year's NHK Special "The Human Body III," where they discussed the nature of life. Both hosts praised how easily the collaboration came together. Tamori remarked that after just one conversation with MISIA, it felt like they'd worked together for years. Yamanaka highlighted how MISIA's "natural and candid thoughts" make complex scientific topics accessible to general audiences.

This marks an exciting new chapter for MISIA beyond music. The veteran singer, who debuted in 1998 with "Tsutsumikomu You ni..." and launched the R&B boom in Japan, has remained active with major tours and releases. Her 25th anniversary arena tour last year drew 200,000 fans across 23 shows, and she's continued releasing new music including the recent singles "Scarred Champion" and "Thank You for Love."

The show itself blends entertainment with genuine scientific curiosity, examining topics through the lens of cutting-edge research. With MISIA now in the mix, the program aims to present complex ideas in a more conversational, approachable way. The July 4 episode airs on NHK at 7:30 PM.
