New Artist Residency Studio Opens in Shizuoka This March
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION's Goto Masafumi launches MUSIC inn Fujieda, a residency studio offering over 10 million yen worth of equipment for free to support musicians.

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION's guitarist and vocalist Goto Masafumi is opening a new residency studio for musicians in Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture on March 22nd.
The facility, called "MUSIC inn Fujieda," comes equipped with over 10 million yen (approximately $67,000 USD) worth of professional recording equipment that artists can use at no cost. The studio operates as a residency program, allowing musicians to stay on-site while working on their projects.
Goto established the nonprofit Apple Vinegar Music Support Organization in 2024 specifically to support emerging and established artists through initiatives like this. The organization aims to provide resources that many independent musicians typically can't afford on their own.
For international J-Pop fans, this represents a significant development in Japan's music support infrastructure. ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION has been a major force in Japanese alternative rock since the early 2000s, known for hits like "Haruka Kanata" and "Rewrite." Goto's move into music philanthropy reflects a growing trend of established Japanese artists giving back to the music community.
The Fujieda location puts the studio in a quieter setting outside major metropolitan areas, potentially offering artists a focused environment away from urban distractions. This type of artist residency program has become increasingly popular worldwide as a way to foster creativity and provide professional development opportunities.
The studio opens its doors next month, representing a new resource for Japan's independent music scene.
