NEWS' Masuda Takahisa Announces Debut Solo Cover Album

NEWS member Masuda Takahisa will release his first-ever solo cover album, "Masuda Takahisa no Cover," on April 8.

The album will feature Masuda's takes on beloved J-Pop classics, including songs from pop icon Utada Hikaru and fellow Johnny's & Associates acts like Tegomasu (the duo of Tegoshi Yuya and Masuda himself), KinKi Kids, and the legendary SMAP.

For international fans, this marks a significant solo venture for Masuda, who has been a core member of NEWS since the group's formation in 2003. Known for his vocals and variety show appearances, Masuda has previously released music as part of the sub-unit Tegomasu with former NEWS member Tegoshi Yuya.

The choice to cover songs from across Johnny's history - from senior groups like SMAP and KinKi Kids to his own collaborative work - suggests the album will serve as both a personal tribute and a celebration of the agency's musical legacy. SMAP, who disbanded in 2016, remains one of Japan's most influential boy bands, while KinKi Kids continue to be active after debuting in 1997.

This cover album represents Masuda exploring his artistic range outside of NEWS's typical pop-rock sound, giving fans a chance to hear familiar songs through his distinctive vocal style.
