SoulJa released a new single on Father's Day (June 21) that's as intimate as it gets—a musical love letter to his daughter called "guess what?-大好きだよ-" (guess what?-I love you-).

The Tokyo-born singer-songwriter, who balances single parenthood with his music career, poured his heart into this track. The song moves through the texture of everyday fatherhood: the rush of morning routines, quiet conversations with his child, the quiet pride of watching her grow, and a firm parental promise: "Daddy is here for you."

It's personal stuff made public, but the cover art keeps things grounded. SoulJa used an illustration his daughter drew herself, complete with her own message of love, as the single's artwork. That choice—letting her voice literally frame the song—speaks to what the track is really about.

SoulJa's career has always been genre-fluid. He grew up steeped in classical music through his mother's influence, picked up hip-hop as a teenager while bouncing between Belgium, America, and Japan, and eventually found his lane as a songwriter and producer. He broke through nationally with "ここにいるよ feat.青山テルマ" back in 2003, then watched its sequel "そばにいるね" become a cultural moment. Since then, he's collaborated with everyone from electronic pioneer Haruomi Hosono to veteran musician Takashi Takahashi.

This new single marks another chapter—one where his identity as an artist intersects directly with his identity as a parent. The emotional stakes are different when you're writing about your own kid rather than abstract love or loss.
