THE ALFEE's "SONGS Live Special" is heading to mainstream Japanese television. After debuting on NHK BS Premium 4K in March, the concert special will air on NHK General TV on July 5 at 5:00 PM, giving a wider audience the chance to catch the legendary group in action.

The broadcast responds to viewer requests for a wider release. The original March special drew attention when the three-member group—Toshihiko Takamizawa (vocals, guitar), Konosuke Sakazaki (vocals, guitar), and Masaru Sakurai (vocals, bass)—performed for an audience of roughly 500 in the NHK studio.

The one-hour program showcases THE ALFEE's signature sound through performances of their most beloved tracks. The setlist includes "Hoshi Zora no Distance" (Star Sky Distance), "Merry Ann," "Generation Dynamite," "Flower Revolution," and nine other songs spanning their decades-long career.

Formed in 1974 under the name Alfie, THE ALFEE built their reputation on intricate harmonies and melodic compositions. Their music blends folk, rock, and progressive elements, appealing across generations. Since 1982, they've hosted annual large-scale summer outdoor concerts, cementing their status as touring giants. The group recently achieved a milestone in April when they reached 3,000 career live performances, a record for a Japanese domestic band.

The special also features on-stage conversation with the band, offering fans insight into their process and history. It's a rare glimpse into their current work and perspective.

For longtime fans and those curious about one of Japan's most enduring rock acts, the July 5 broadcast offers an accessible entry point to THE ALFEE's craft. The program airs Sunday at 5:00 PM on NHK General TV.
