SIMON JAKOPS, the CEO of XGALX and executive producer behind international girl group XG, was arrested by Tokyo Metropolitan Police on February 23 for drug possession charges.

According to reports, JAKOPS was taken into custody by the police's Drug and Firearms Control Division for violating Japan's Narcotics Control Law on suspicion of cocaine possession.

XG, known for their English-language tracks and global appeal, debuted in 2022 under XGALX, the label founded by JAKOPS. The seven-member group has gained significant international attention with hits like "Mascara" and "SHOOTING STAR," positioning themselves as a bridge between J-Pop and international markets.

JAKOPS has been instrumental in XG's creative direction and international strategy since their formation. The arrest comes at a time when the group has been actively promoting globally and building their fanbase outside Japan.

The incident raises questions about the immediate impact on XG's ongoing activities and future projects. Japanese entertainment companies typically take swift action in such situations, though no official statement has been released by XGALX regarding the arrest or its implications for the group's operations.

XG's unique position as a Japanese group targeting international audiences has made them standout performers in the current J-Pop scene, making this development particularly significant for both domestic and international fans following their career.
