Yamada Ryosuke Appears on NTV's New Documentary About Consumption and Waste
Hey! Say! JUMP's Yamada Ryosuke is set to appear on NTV's special program "What Lies Beyond Desire? Scrap Planet," airing May 30th as part of the network's SDGs awareness week. The documentary explores the environmental impact of consumer habits.

Hey! Say! JUMP member Yamada Ryosuke will appear on NTV's new documentary program "What Lies Beyond Desire? Scrap Planet" this Saturday, May 30th at 3:00 PM, serving as one of the week's SDGs ambassadors alongside actor Koizumi Kotaro and figure skater Sakamoto Kaori.
The program takes a hard look at the consequences of human consumption, framing itself as a documentary variety show that examines where our desires lead. Rather than lecturing viewers, the show uses an AI moderator positioned in the studio to pose questions, with comedian Yoshimura Takashi from Heisei Nobushiko Nobushi serving as an AI assistant. The format emphasizes conversation between humans and artificial intelligence as they explore contemporary issues tied to consumption.
Yamada will contribute to segments on fashion consumption and food waste. During the fashion discussion, he opens up about his own habits, noting that while he purchases clothes for his work as a visible public figure, he makes an effort to pass unworn items to fellow group members and younger artists rather than letting them go to waste. The program then traces where Japan's 1.5 billion unsold garments end up annually—a journey that leads the production team to Bangladesh.
The food waste segment takes a different angle, following where discarded food goes to show viewers the true cost of satisfying consumer appetite. After witnessing both the scale of waste and efforts to address it, the ambassador panel reportedly reflects on changing their daily habits and choices moving forward.
This appearance is part of NTV's broader "Good For the Planet Week" (Guppla), which runs May 30th through June 7th. The network is using the programming block to highlight sustainability issues and encourage viewers to reconsider their consumption patterns. For Yamada, the appearance adds to a busy schedule that includes recent television appearances and an upcoming drama series.
The program airs Saturday at 3:00 PM on Nippon Television.
