YOASOBI is joining forces with Overwatch for a major collaboration that brings the duo's signature blend of storytelling and music into the beloved tactical shooter.

The partnership centers on a new original track called "Orion," which YOASOBI created specifically for the game. Composer Ayase drew inspiration from the short story "A Sparrow Falls to Earth," part of Overwatch's Season 3 narrative, focusing on the relationships between characters Kiriko, Genji, and Hanzo. The song incorporates koto (traditional Japanese harp) alongside drum and bass production—a deliberately modern sound that reflects the game's futuristic aesthetic while maintaining YOASOBI's J-pop foundation.

"Orion" arrives as part of YOASOBI's new EP "THE BOOK for," releasing June 26. The collaboration also extends to the game itself: players will get access to limited-time cosmetics, including special skins for Kiriko, Genji, and Hanzo, plus the "Neon Junction" map that inspired the partnership. The map draws heavily from Tokyo and Akihabara's visual identity, making YOASOBI a natural fit as storytellers.

At a launch event in Tokyo's Shibuya, vocalist ikura expressed her excitement about bringing YOASOBI's world to millions of global players. "It was surreal hearing about this," she said. "To be chosen for something so loved worldwide felt really significant."

Ayase elaborated on the creative direction: "The core idea came from how those three characters relate to each other. Orion's belt—three stars that look distant individually but align beautifully from the right angle—became our central metaphor. We wanted the music to feel modern and futuristic while keeping our soul in it."

The collaboration includes an exclusive analog vinyl edition of "THE BOOK for," released in the US with custom Overwatch-themed artwork. An "Orion" music video will feature Kiriko in her collaboration skin.

Overwatch's development team praised the partnership as a natural extension of the game's character-driven storytelling. The full short story "A Sparrow Falls to Earth" is available on Overwatch's official website for players wanting deeper narrative context.

The crossover goes live July 1, 2026.
