YOASOBI has announced THE BOOK for, the closing chapter of their THE BOOK album series. The new project showcases the range the duo has covered over the past three years, blending producer Ayase's electro-pop compositions with vocalist ikura's vocals across multiple styles. The album includes several anime original soundtracks, a track drawn from narratives shared by 1,000 teenagers in Japan, and the single "Orion," created through a partnership with Overwatch.

The duo's creative process remains consistent after seven years together: Ayase develops music from a prose source—novels, short stories, letters, or fan submissions—while ikura adds her vocals to complete each track. "The overall shape of it, the structure, hasn't really changed," ikura explained in an interview about the album. "There's a story or a novel that Ayase turns into music, writing the lyrics, composing, and arranging. Then I receive that song, and we record my vocals together to complete it."

Ayase emphasized that YOASOBI's foundation has always been text-based inspiration. "In terms of the framework of YOASOBI, we've never used anime or manga itself as the source material," Ayase noted. "Everything has been based on novels, on text. Sometimes it's letters or feelings we've received from fans. We've had stories written for us too."

When adapting stories into music, Ayase balances fidelity to the original narrative with artistic interpretation. "It's both, really," Ayase said of whether the songs are adaptations or emotional readings. "We always get inspiration from the worlds of the original stories, and we want to convey that world, the characters, and the emotions properly. But if there's a huge twist at the end, giving it away in the song wouldn't be as fun. It's like dissecting a story: absorbing it into myself and then rebuilding it through my music."
