BlizzCon 2026 marked a milestone for esports entertainment by staging its first-ever halftime show during the Overwatch World Cup, with YOASOBI taking center stage on Sunday, September 13. The Japanese pop duo performed between matches inside the Overwatch World Cup Arena, placing the pair among competitive gaming's biggest moments.

YOASOBI's booking connected Blizzard with one of Japanese pop's most globally recognized acts. The duo's 2023 track "Idol," which served as the opening theme for the anime series Oshi no Ko, has accumulated over 688 million YouTube views. The performance underscores YOASOBI's reach beyond the music world into mainstream entertainment and gaming culture.

The halftime slot was part of a convention packed with celebrity appearances. K-pop group LE SSERAFIM closed BlizzCon on the Main Stage, marking their return since performing at the 2023 edition. Actor Simu Liu competed in the Blizzard Classic Cup's StarCraft II Entertainment Match alongside esports professionals, while K-pop star Shindong joined the opposing team. The StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Heroes of the Storm competitions carried a combined $100,000 prize pool.

Other notable guests included producer and DJ deadmau5, who participated in a Diablo-centered panel with Blizzard's development team, and T-Pain, who joined Overwatch World Cup festivities. Content creator Duke Dennis took part in World of Warcraft activities, while actor Khleo Thomas provided behind-the-scenes coverage as the convention's "BlizzCon Insider."

The performance arrived as Overwatch marked its 10th anniversary and introduced Doctrine, a new Support Hero with life-draining abilities. BlizzCon's return after two years also brought reveals including Diablo V, an open-world StarCraft shooter, World of Warcraft: Forever, and a Diablo Netflix series in development.
