YOASOBI marked a milestone for esports entertainment when the Japanese pop duo performed at BlizzCon 2026 on September 13, headlining the gaming convention's inaugural halftime show during the Overwatch World Cup. The performance positioned Ayase and ikura between matches in one of the event's most active arenas, borrowing the halftime spectacle format from major American sports events.

The appearance connected Blizzard Entertainment with one of J-Pop's largest international acts. YOASOBI's 2023 hit "Idol," which served as the opening theme for the anime series Oshi no Ko, has accumulated more than 688 million YouTube views, cementing the track as a global cultural touchstone.

BlizzCon's celebrity lineup extended beyond the stage. Actor and longtime Blizzard player Simu Liu competed in the Blizzard Classic Cup's StarCraft II Entertainment Match alongside pros MC and Rogue, while K-pop star Shindong joined the opposing team with IdrA and Serral. The Classic Cup distributed $100,000 across StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Heroes of the Storm competitions.

T-Pain participated in Overwatch World Cup festivities, deadmau5 joined a Diablo-focused panel with Blizzard developers, and content creator Duke Dennis covered World of Warcraft activities. The convention also featured K-pop group LE SSERAFIM, who closed the Main Stage on the final day—their return to BlizzCon since 2023.

The event marked BlizzCon's return after the convention did not run in 2024 or 2025. Blizzard used the weekend to announce several major releases and developments, including Diablo V, an open-world StarCraft shooter, World of Warcraft: Forever, and the first new Heroes of the Storm character in nearly six years. A Netflix animated series based on Diablo is also in development.

The Overwatch World Cup itself celebrated the game's 10th anniversary, introducing the vampire-inspired Support Hero Doctrine and substantial reworks for Sombra and Roadhog, alongside the new Watchpoint: Grimsvötn map and the conclusion of the Reign of Talon storyline. Another Overwatch Spotlight is scheduled for February 2027.
