Bandai Namco Entertainment America has unveiled the "Battle of the Strongest" trailer for Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, the upcoming soccer game based on Yōichi Takahashi's beloved manga franchise.

The game launches August 28 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Bandai Namco is offering pre-order bonuses that include a 2026 Japan National Team Jersey cosmetic, the World Youth Jersey cosmetic, and the Early Unlock Pack. Players who grab the Ultimate Edition will get five uniforms, two exclusive main menu themes, three ball customizations, the season pass, and additional extras.

With 22 national teams and over 110 playable characters to choose from, the game aims to capture the competitive spirit that's defined the Captain Tsubasa series since its debut. The original manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1988 and has since become a global phenomenon, inspiring four TV anime series, four films, multiple OVA projects, and even a stage play.

Takahashi's work has remained relevant through sequel manga runs. The Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun series, which follows Tsubasa's Olympic ambitions, launched in 2013 and concluded in 2024 with the author announcing his retirement from serialized manga. The story continues in storyboard form on the franchise's website as part of the Rising Sun Finals.

For English-speaking fans, there's good news: all chapters of the original Captain Tsubasa manga became available on Shueisha's MANGA Plus service in English in April 2025, marking the first solo English release of the classic series.

The Captain Tsubasa franchise has demonstrated lasting appeal across multiple media formats, and this new game entry appears designed to tap into both longtime fans and newcomers looking for a soccer game with the series' signature high-energy gameplay and character-driven storytelling.
