Flag Pictures confirmed Sunday that Nene Azuki's manga Mii-chan and Miss Yamada is heading to anime, with the adaptation set to premiere in 2027. Azuki marked the occasion with a celebratory illustration.

The story centers on Yamada, a university student working part-time as a hostess in one of Shinjuku's nightclubs. She's mastered the art of blending in—keeping to herself, following the unwritten rules of the trade, and avoiding entanglements with others. Her carefully maintained routine shifts when Mii-chan enters her life. Despite being adorable, Mii-chan struggles with basic literacy and coordination, constantly bumping into trouble and drawing criticism from both staff and customers. Yet her infectious optimism and relentless energy somehow draw Yamada in, sparking an unexpected bond.

Azuki launched the manga on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket platform in September 2024. The series has already reached its sixth compiled volume (shipped April 23), with a seventh and final volume arriving in late summer 2027. The manga's relatively compact run—wrapping up before its anime debut—suggests the adaptation will cover the complete story.

English-language fans have something to look forward to as well. Seven Seas Entertainment will publish the English translation starting with the first volume on December 8, 2026, making the manga accessible to Western readers before the anime airs.
