Netflix dropped an early preview of its webtoon-based live-action series Viral Hit on YouTube, giving fans a taste of what's coming when the show launches globally on Thursday, June 13.

The four-minute preview opens with the tagline "If you get stronger, the world will change" before diving into the story of Kota Shimura, a high school student at the bottom of the social ladder. The footage doesn't shy away from showing his brutal daily humiliation—including a scene where he's forced to appear in a livestream wearing white face makeup. It's a stark introduction to both the protagonist's vulnerability and the series' darker edge.

Viral Hit follows Shimura as he discovers that live-streamed street fights can become a path to money and redemption. The story blends coming-of-age drama with action while examining how digital culture and the pursuit of viral fame shape young people's lives.

Director Hideki Takeuchi leads the project, which features cast members Ōji Suzuka, Ai Mikami, and Meru Nukumi. To celebrate the launch, Netflix is hosting a watch party on June 11 where fans can view the first episode alongside the actors.

The source material has serious momentum behind it. The webtoon originally launched in Korea in November 2019 and quickly expanded internationally through the WEBTOON platform, with English translations arriving in October 2020. In Japan, it runs on LINE Manga and has accumulated over 500 million views. The property already received an anime adaptation in 2024, currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Globally, the webtoon has racked up an impressive 2.28 billion cumulative views. Production staff noted that the live-action cast developed strong chemistry during filming, with the team bonding through off-set activities like group barbecues—a detail that often translates to better on-screen dynamics.

The live-action Viral Hit represents Netflix's continued investment in adapting popular webtoons for international audiences, tapping into a property with proven appeal across multiple formats and regions.
