Nintendo's latest Direct presentation delivered several major announcements for Switch 2, giving fans a clearer picture of the next-gen console's launch lineup.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort headlines the reveal as the spiritual successor to Wii Sports Resort. The motion-control sports collection launches October 22 and features 12 sports: Boxing, Table Tennis, Archery, Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball, Golf, Thumb Wrestling, Skateboarding, Power Cruising, and Prop Plane. Players can compete using either Sports Mii characters or regular Miis on Wuhu Island, the same tropical setting from the original Wii Sports Resort. A Jump Rope minigame returns as a warm-up activity.

This marks the next evolution of Nintendo's sports franchise. The original Wii Sports Resort launched in 2009 with similar motion-control gameplay, while Nintendo Switch Sports released in April 2022 with six sports that later expanded to eight. Switch Sports Resort's 12-sport roster matches the original Resort's breadth, suggesting Nintendo is doubling down on motion controls for the new hardware.

Beyond sports, Nintendo is bringing RPG heavyweights to Switch 2. Square Enix unveiled the first trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV, confirming the beloved crossover franchise's arrival on the new console. The announcement marks another major third-party commitment to the platform.

RPG fans also got news about the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Nintendo announced Xenoblade Genesis, a new title launching in 2027, alongside Switch 2 editions for three existing Xenoblade Chronicles titles. This signals strong support for the JRPG community on Switch 2.

The Direct demonstrates Nintendo's strategy to balance accessible motion-control gaming with premium third-party support. Motion controls haven't dominated console gaming in years, so Nintendo Switch Sports Resort's return to Joy-Con-based gameplay could either revitalize interest in the mechanic or serve as a niche offering for families and casual players.

All three announcements confirm October 22 is shaping up as a significant launch window for Switch 2, with sports, action RPGs, and established franchises arriving to build the console's early library.
