Omamori Himari fans have reason to celebrate this month. Milan Matra's long-running manga is getting a special one-shot in the July issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Dragon Age, marking the series' 20th anniversary since it first launched in 2006.

The new 24-page chapter appears as a one-time comeback for the manga, which concluded in September 2013 after seven years of serialization. Matra is also providing exclusive artwork for the issue—a special mini color illustration included with the magazine.

The original Omamori Himari follows a high school student who discovers he's descended from a demon-fighting clan. His peaceful life gets complicated when a cat girl named Himari shows up to protect him from supernatural threats. It's a blend of action, comedy, and romance that resonated with readers during its run.

Beyond the manga's success in Japan, Omamori Himari found an international audience. Yen Press published all 12 volumes in North America, making it accessible to English-speaking fans. The series also spawned a television anime in 2010, which Crunchyroll streamed during its original broadcast in Japan. Funimation later released the anime on DVD in 2016, introducing it to even more viewers.

Matra hasn't been idle since wrapping Omamori Himari. The creator launched another series called Demonizer Zilch in Monthly Dragon Age in 2014, which ran until September 2017. Yen Press also brought all five volumes of that manga to North America.

For longtime fans of Omamori Himari, this anniversary one-shot offers a chance to revisit the characters and world they enjoyed years ago.
